PJ and Ashleigh Smyth

PJ and Ashleigh started GodFirst church 6 years ago in Johannesburg, South Africa, after successfully planting and leading a church in Zimbabwe. GodFirst now sees thousands of people meeting in multiple venues around the city.

In his passion to help others put the lead back into leadership, PJ is an author and international speaker on matters of leadership, and has been a keynote speaker at the Newfrontiers Leadership Conference for the last five years in the UK, where 5,000 leaders gather annually for leadership training. His book, “The World Needs More Leaders” is the most popular leadership training manual within the global church movement of Newfrontiers. PJ and Ashleigh have three sons, Jack, Ben and Sam.

Pete Kropman

Pete Kropman is Manager of Central Operations at GodFirst and Executive Assistant to PJ Smyth. Pete is married to Carla and they have two kids, Kyle and Ashley. Pete worked in banking for 10 years before moving to work at GodFirst in November 2009. He is currently also studying a theology degree through BTC (the Baptist Theological College).

Zak Venter

I am a son and worshipper of God, a husband to Beloved Amy and a Pastor at GodFirst in the city of Johannesburg. I have lived in Jozi for 5 years now, previously working as a Buyer / General Manager of a high fashion retail chain.

I am so loving the City of Johannesburg, loving the church and I am excited to see more and more people come to know Jesus and put God first in their lives.

Andrew Butterworth

Andrew oversees GodFirst’s counselling strategy and is on the leadership team of GodFirst Montecasino. He is married to Michelle and before working for GodFirst trained as a medical doctor. He is passionate about seeing Jesus change people’s lives and Stoke City football club.’

Michael Thomas 

Creative Director at GodFirst and has been leading worship and writing songs for 15 years. Before working at GodFirst he owned a design company. Michael and his wife Nicole are passionate about the world meeting God in real life.

Greg Tait

Greg leads the Rosebank venue at Godfirst in Johannesburg. He is also a certified financial planner and a member of the Financial Planning Institute of South Africa. He is married to Lauren and they have three children Jo, Olli and Fran.
